First and foremost, I am a wife and mother, roles that shape everything I do. Raised by two hardworking parents in Hoke County, I learned early on that if you want something, you have to work hard and earn it. My roots run deep in this community—I grew up in Hillcrest and attended Scurlock Elementary until the year-round program began at Upchurch Elementary, then moved on to West Hoke Middle and graduated from Hoke High School.
After spending several years in the medical field, I decided to go back to school to major in Nuclear Medicine. Just before starting the radiology program, I found out I was going to be a mom. That changed everything for me. I chose a career in cosmetology that allowed me to spend more time with my son, and after completing 1,500 hours of training at Paul Mitchell, I was able to have the freedom to bring him to work with me.
A year or so later, I was invited to consider teaching—a path I hadn't planned on, but after a few months of substituting, I decided to pursue it. I became a North Carolina Licensed instructor and eventually returned to school to obtain a degree in General Education.
Today, my husband and I both run our own small businesses, and we cherish the time we get to spend with our boys. Our oldest graduated from Jack Britt High School, serves in the National Guard. Our middle son began his high school journey at Jack Britt before transferring to Hoke High School in 2021 when we built our home. He enjoyed his time at Hoke High, especially the Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, though there were some struggles along the way he graduated last year and is now serving in the US Army. Our youngest will be attending Hoke County School next year.
It is this youngest son who inspired me to run for the Hoke County Board of Education. I want to ensure that the school he attends, and all the schools in our community, are the best they can be for our children, and for the future of Hoke County.
Working Together for a Stronger Tomorrow.
